This newsletter is Copyleft: and may be used by anyone. SAFE Ark Two Newsletter September 1st, 2013 Syria Explained Someone in the UK sent me a newspaper clipping explaining about Syria. Best explanation that I have seen and so I am showing the clipping further down in this newsletter. Will Obama bomb or won't he? In the stage vernacular most feel that he already has, but the Nobel Peace Laureate is still pondering Syria. I have absolutely no comprehension as to why. General consensus, of most of the rest of the world at least, is that gas came from the rebels. So Obama will bomb the government Leader (who may not be there) for harming his people. Of course Obama's bombs will/would fall on the people. In this case - children would simply be 'collateral' damage. He wouldn't mean to hit them. Just couldn't miss them. I believe God does lead the actions of leaders, and I have no idea how seriously Obama seeks God, or what answers he is hearing. But, if this is the plan of God, to bomb those who were bombed/gassed, in order to punish those who didn't do the gassing, I have got to tell you - I am confused. Of course, when I look back on history, everything gets turned around in ways that I couldn't imagine at the time. I disputed with my professors that the US could have put US citizens in concentration camps. Of course it turned out it did that to the American Japanese. I didn't believe my next door neighbor's son (who was in Pearl Harbor at the time) when he said that Roosevelt had ordered all the water tight hatches and compartments to be opened on the ships for that morning. But it turned out to be the case. I thought that "The Buck Stops Here" Truman had used the Atomic Bomb to shorten the war, but there is no question now, from the historical record, that he had other motives. So, I had no idea what was going on then - and I am sure I have no idea of what is going on now, or why. It may well be that even Obama doesn't know. I am sure the media 'experts' don't know. The world is now so confusing and confused, it is very possibly no one knows. Not even at the very highest levels. I can tell Obama that the destiny of the world is above his pay grade, but doing what is right and moral is not. Bombing children is not right and moral. The Syria Scene With as little as I understand, the following short letter to the editor newspaper clipping is the best that I have seen. The Big Scene Lots of stuff happening this month. Probably lots more than I am aware of, but here are some things that I am watching. So far - Obama hasn't gotten the green light from Congress to bomb Syria. The troops and ships are all lined up to do the deed as soon as Obama gives them the word. The US Constitution says that only Congress can declare war, but bombing a few people in Syria, or elsewhere, according to Obama, isn't war. I understand this. Way back in the time of Korea, I wasn't in a war. I was in a Police Action. We can also say that those aren't bombs, but that they are just bouquets. Sgt. Shultz and I know nothing. So the G20 Leaders' Summit, scheduled for September 5-6 in Russia, is this week. Obama planning to go, but says that he will stiff Putin. What is especially significant about that is that Vladimir Putin assumed the G20 presidency, December 1, 2012. Obama is stiffing him because of Snowden. He is also stiffing him at the UN about Syria because, theoretically as a permanent member of the Security Council, Russia has veto power over the US bombing Syria. Russia and China won't even discuss it and walked out of a meeting last week when it was brought up. Now one may think Russia doesn't have a lot of options. They can either let it go - or go all out nuke war against the US. But, that isn't so. Russia AND China have another nuke option. The same one that the US used against Cuba (and many other countries). The economic/financial/monetary nuke. They just have to stop taking US currency for their oil. We are not talking about taking US money from the US, we are talking about taking US money from anyone. If that happens it is the end of the US dollar as the world 'reserve' currency. Obama knows this. Obama knows that the Congress may not approve bombing Syria. Obama knows that the Tea Party in Congress plans to bomb him over Obamacare. Obama knows that the budget which should have been passed long ago - may not get passed by Oct 1st. All or none of this stuff may be Obama's fault. There may not be anything that Obama can do about it. Whichever. The next weeks and months should be very interesting - in a Chinese sort of way. That is why we just have to pedal faster in getting ready. I do hope that you will study, and respond to, the National Coordinator's request in his column below. The Radio Scene I am spending many hours each day trying to find a solution to the radio problem. As of the moment that I am writing this there have been 1,135 views of my posting on the Elmer's board at eHam.net There have been some suggestions that Carlton and I are trying to follow up on. We are waiting particularly at this moment for input from Dave. One of the suggestions that we hear repeatedly is that everyone assemble kits. The following is a description of putting together one small component from one of the actual suppliers we have considered. If you decide to watch it, the link will download to your computer and then you have to run it there. I found it quite informative. Soldering some parts This Week at Ark Two Have worked on little else all week, other than the radio. We did get a load of wood delivered, and now I need to get it stacked, but will continue to focus on the radio first. Jean and I study for one day each month, in preparation for our upcoming driving exam. The walk-up pregnant cat had four kittens. We had them in the kitchen but Jean let the mother cat slip into another room where she has now hidden the kittens. Life goes on. Who is reading this? No, literally: Who - Is - Reading - This? As SAFE's National Coordinator for the US, I've had the distinct honor to be in contact with a very few, very motivated, very responsible people. Emphasis on the "very few"! Behind the scenes, so to speak, there are some exciting things on the front AND the back burner.  That said, I must come back to our basic purpose of stepping things up to the next level. Several folks have actually emailed me asking how to get in touch with their STL. Let's review. To contact your State Team Leader (STL), go to: http://www.webpal.org/SAFE/aaastateTL.htm   click on your state. That will give you your STL's email. Introduce yourself to whatever level of openness you're comfortable with. If you get no response within 10 days, fire me a quick email, and I will personally  see what can be done to make contact. This is a critical step in our fundamental function as an organization. We need to get beyond that type of question, and on to higher levels of operation - like yesterday! Allow me a quick digression. Each STL was sent their respective state membership list by our Database Mgr. Jonathan.  Names were NOT included. Please forgive me for not making that clear the first time around. The STLs were told to contact their  members with an introductory email, in order to quickly identify who their active members were. Of course, the amount of personal info  shared would be up to the STL and member(first name only, initials, whatever). Results have been marginal. Some states are so far ahead, in terms of creating their own network. It's been an honor working with them! Other states have been run by highly dedicated people with a solid track record, who are now in the rather odd position of somehow resisting to shift gears a bit and adopt some new strategies. That puts me in an awkward situation because we must pick up the pace. And it falls back on me when members start complaining that no one is responding to their offers to volunteer OR inquiries!  Lord knows, SAFE has so many gifted and talented members out there, just waiting to be activated. We can't afford that lack of responsiveness to continue. SAFE is not the emergency broadcast system, just sitting there, waiting for activation. That may have been the case in the past. We have to be functioning NOW. For many, that just means knowing who your fellow members are. For others, that means having  a schedule or means of routinely contacting each other. And for some others, it means coordinating and carrying out independent activities  that are both helpful AND rewarding to your network! So, where does that leave us? Providing information is great BUT, we don't have a monopoly on that. What SAFE does have is a network in some cases, or a potential network in others, that can spell the difference for success or failure in almost any  circumstance. We can't afford to "stick that function in a hole and burry it"! At this point, if this were the military, I'd give an order, but since SAFE is a civilian organization, I have to strongly request that  whoever is reading this, please get off the can, and do what you signed up for. If you're an STL and you haven't answered my  email appeals, get in touch with me ASAP! Give me a list of your priorities, AND a timetable for achieving your objectives!
