Road Runner Time
Don't know if you remember old Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner.
Wile continually outfoxed himself (if that that is a proper thing to say
about a coyote.) Anyway, he always ended up going over the cliff and
being suspended in mid-air. In my estimation, Looney Tunes is probably a
fair description of where we are going to be until sometime before the
Ides of February.
I need to be careful about parables. The last time when I wrote about
the Me-yans, the only comment that I got was that I don't know how to
spell Mayan. So, let me spell this out. In this case Wile represents the
US Congress and the American economy. The cliff is the fact that:
a. the US hits its maximum debt limit Dec 31st.
b. the EUI (Extended Unemployment Insurance) ends for 2 million recipients
c. the automatic 10% decrease in Federal spending across the board kicks in.
d. the Bush era taxes reductions for the wealthy - end.
e. there are automatic tax increases.
f. numerous subsidy programs terminate.
g. the Euro reform deadline is breached.
All of the above, except for the Euro deadline, was intentionally
established by the previous US Congress to force the present US Congress
to agree upon a solution. Aside from the fact that there is no
solution, the present Congress can't even agree upon principles of what
one would look like. So- over the cliff.

There is some speculation that effects may be seen in the Dow and in
such things as milk prices at the supermarket. Maychance in fuel prices,
or who knows what or where. But, more likely not much seen in day to
day life. Wile E. Coyote would do wonderful things to survive the cliff.
Flap his arms or pull out an umbrella or parachute. So will the
government. There may be a deal proclaimed, or a temporary stop gap
measure, but no matter - gravity will soon take over.
For all the predictions about 2012, (and there were many besides the Mayan)- I said, "Nope."
For all the talk about the Fiscal Cliff - I have said, "Nope."
Because I have figured it will take until the Ides of February for it to really start to kick in.
But then, the next eighteen months will be a doozer until it all climaxes sometime after July 28th, 1914.
No one else, and I mean NO ONE else, has had these speculative dates.
Consequently, the probability that I may be right, from any reasonable
point of view, is therefore zip. BUT - they are MY dates and I am
holding to them. I have been wrong before and I can be wrong again. If I
am - I will probably just select new dates.
I have much to say about the remedy for the fiscal cliff and what I
presume to be the coming societal collapse, but most are not ready to
hear about that and many will never be.
No founders of great systems have ever thought their systems to be
eternal. Mao proposed a revolution every ten years and Lincoln said he
realized the present system would pass away.
This is a perspective stated by many of the founding fathers.
Thomas Jefferson stated the following - and it is emblazoned on his memorial:
"I am certainly not an advocate for frequent and untried changes in laws
and constitutions. I think moderate imperfections had better be borne
with; because, when once known, we accommodate ourselves to them, and
find practical means of correcting their ill effects. But I know also,
that laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the
human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new
discoveries are made, new truths disclosed, and manners and opinions
change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also,
and keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear
still the coat which fitted him when a boy, as civilized society to
remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors."

Technology has radically changed since the time of Thomas Jefferson.
The world has become much smaller due to:
air travel
ICBMs
travel to the moon and other planets.
Communication has become extremely rapid -
from the line of site communication that he knew -
and pony express type of mail delivery -
when we now have practically instantaneous world communication with
Satellites
Cell phones
Internet
World population has increased almost tenfold -
and armaments have progressed(?) from cannon balls to nuclear weapons.
The world views on:
slavery
child labor
women's rights
democracy
freedoms of religion and thought
have greatly altered since the time of the founding fathers.
Robotics and many other technologies have greatly impacted the nature of life. To begin to list the technologies
would require a more extensive list than this format permits.
So - in the face of all this
I have a question
and am going to conduct one of my polls
to ask where you stand on all this.
Now, I realize that you may simultaneously hold more than one position -
but the question is which position predominately governs your choice
for humanity to act - or not to act.
Which do you believe:
a. The world is about to end -
and humankind/society won't survive -
and there is no need to worry about any of this.
b. Jesus is going to return
and establish His Kingdom -
so there is no need for us to worry about any of this.
c. The US Constitution was Divinely revealed/inspired
and we should simply try to get back to the original intent/purpose.
d. The world has radically changed
and is about to change even more radically
and that we should consider other/new forms of governance

please send me your comments/suggestions. For example - what principles
should be evoked. We might call these - New Resolutions for the New
World in the New Year.

More great progress on the radio.
All the parts plus the four PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards) were here on
Christmas Eve. Adam has started populating the 4 prototype boards and we
hope to do bench testing with Bob during January - to compare the new
boards' circuit performance to the original bench prototype.
Bob will determine that the circuits are functioning as intended - and tune the transformers and such as needed.
Following that we will need Dave to do performance testing in the field.
Carlton and I have completed our analysis of the software design and
have sent the specs back to Darlene. After Darlene finishes the
programming we will be ready to field test the software.
Still manuals to write -
packaging to be developed -
production procedures to be decided upon - and other such hurdles to be
completed, but hopefully things will go faster in the new year - than
they did this year.
Delightful holidays here - which have added to the activity. Now
awaiting still another/different generator part. Spent the whole of
Thursday shoveling snow and it would take a LOT of help for us to shovel
into the shelter. I expect that I will be spending much of today
shoveling snow.
