Trying to Track the News

Everyday there come to me news summaries from individuals who have spent many hours each day tracking the news. Oftentimes they specialize in particular areas. Some of the reports are so astounding - that I then try to backtrack to find the original sources.

One report this week quoted:
JP Morgan:

"We're heading headlong into a financial meat grinder."

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke:

"We're about to plunge off a financial cliff."

Steven Rattner, former Obama Treasury adviser:

"Major market meltdown the likes of which we've never seen is upon on us."

With Google - the earliest source that I could track any of this back to was:

http://blogs.moneyandmarkets.com/

which contained no footnotes or original sources, so I have no idea how real this is - but it went viral and I saw it repeated tens of thousands of times on the Internet.

There are countervailing views such as a current video of Warren Buffet saying US banks are doing wonderfully. Hmmm. That may be - for the banks or at least the top bank management. Sometimes, I think Warren's announcements may also be a bit self serving for Warren. I am also noting immense numbers of layoffs in the US banking industry.

Nevertheless, there were headlines in US Financial News this week about great improvements in the economy, but the only problem is the headlines weren't bourne out by details in the story - which were often just the opposite.

The "fiscal cliff" concept is not in just the US and Euro.
"The impasse in Japan's parliament has raised fears among investors that the world's third largest economy is being driven towards a "fiscal cliff", Reuters reported. "The government running out of money is not a story made up. It's a real threat," Finance Minister Jun Azumi told a news conference, making a last-ditch appeal for cooperation by opposition parties to pass the bill."

Noted one day during the week that the Euro was reported improved and that (Greece/Italy/Spain/Portugal/Ireland/France) concerns had largely disappeared from MSM radar screen. The problem there is that the Euro is really only measured vis-a-vis the US dollar and that in itself tells nothing about the economic situation in the Euro countries. But then - after I wrote this I again checked the stock market and it took a tumble - and they blamed it on the Euro. Everything is so dynamic that most anything that I write will be contradicted by events and reports before I can get it to you.

One segment of the US economy is certainly booming. US Arms Sales have tripled in last year. The US is the number one arms dealer in the world controlling over 75 percent of all foreign arm sales. The next country behind (Russia) doesn't do one tenth as much.

Along that line - this week Russia has removed all its ships from Syria except for one floating dock. All Russian equipment and remaining troops are now on the floating dock ready to depart. They have also suspended all arm deliveries to Syria, but rebels in Syria have captured some rockets capable of reaching Israel. Now whether Russia is pulling out because Syria can't pay for the goods (I doubt that reason) or because they think some action is imminent that they don't want to be involved in - I can't say, but I do see this as being VERY significant.

Saudi Arabia is openly supporting collapse of Syria which Iran is conversely supporting - so major battle lines are being drawn there. Turkey, France, US also on the collapse side, and with Russia which was on the support side withdrawing - Lebanon, Jordan and Israel are caught in the middle.

In Israel the concern is that if Syria tries a 'Hail Mary' (an old Notre Dame desperate football play) with an attack on Israel - then Hezbollah in Lebanon to the North, Palestinians on the West Bank, Hamas in Gaza and Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt - all being supported by Iran, that they will all descend upon them at once. And now comes the news that the UN Nuclear watch dog is about to issue a report that Iran has made substantial progress in nuclear development. More fuel to the Israeli fires.

I receive some newsletters strongly recommending/supporting that Israel pre-emptively attack Iran immediately. Of course, I also receive others that are totally opposed to that action. Nevertheless, gas mask distribution and shelter assignments have proceeded apace in Israel for the last week.

The conventional wisdom is that Israel may attack after the major Jewish Holidays that are in the first week of October - and before the US presidential election.

Based on all the above - I have absolutely no personal short term predictions as to what is going to happen with Syria, Iran, Israel, the Euro, US economy, elections, or other things of this sort. I do look at longer term predictions regarding the Destiny of Damascus, Israel, US, Armageddon and such - but my personal understanding of prophecy is that the Great Castastrophe will not occur until after July 28th, 2014 and perhaps not until 2015. However, I have been notoriously wrong about my views of specific prophetic times in the past - and I could be equally wrong now.

Things do seem to be building up for some imminent events. I think things will be quite different/worse in 2013. I am not a 2012er, but we do live in exciting times.

Still, things have not reached such a point as to motivate masses of people in take an interest in SAFE. The National Geographic program about Ark Two will air again today Sunday Sept. 2nd, at 4pm.

When Nat. G. first put on the program about us in March - I thought we might get hundreds of thousands of web site hits out of the millions who would watch and we made a big effort to prepare in expectation that maybe 20,000 would enroll. Twenty did. You can see how firm a grasp I have on reality.

Overall media interest regarding Ark Two does continue to accelerate. While I have been writing this there appeared a courier at our door with a copy of Colors Magazine - from Italy. The whole issue was about survival and while they had a nice article about Ark Two much of the magazine was about people throughout the world who are surviving now in situations worse than what I hope we at Ark Two will have to go through.

Pressing on with activities here. Adam back from his trip - and has to complete a major task for his employer before he can do more on our radio project. The Ham Shack at the Ontario Science tried to help with our software testing but they have so much electronic equipment on top of the centre that they were not able to get out a signal. Friday I took our large transceiver to a technician in Barrie, to make sure that I am sending a signal for testing the software. Hope to get it back next week.

I think I have recovered from the illness but then some symptons/dizziness again. Several doctor/specialist appointments scheduled this month. Had a heart monitor on for a couple of days but niece has taken it back - and brought us four quart bottles of soup to boot. Because our car was down Jean hadn't been able to get out to the grocery for a few days. Hmmm. Since writing this and upon our return from Barrie I found a panic message on our answering machine to come in immediately to a cardiologist. Missed that. Will see when - when they open again on Tuesday - Monday being a holiday.

We were able to make the trip Friday because Ian gave us a car! Latest model car - a '96 - that we have ever had. He had it certified, emission tested, the whole works - and we had absolutely no problem transferring the plates to it. Good tires for winter and as Jean says - the cleanest car we have ever had. He knows how grateful we are.

Lots of good things happen for us. Door lock broke and so we couldn't lock the house for several nights - but I found a new lock that would fit. And Jean's overhead kitchen light wouldn't turn on since March but John came over and fixed that just before leaving for a week's vacation. So just this week Jean has gotten a new car, a new lock on the door, a new light in the kitchen, and a new printer cartridge for her printer, plus milk and eggs in the fridge from being able to go shopping again. Until one is without things like that you can't tell how pleased you are to get them.

We REALLY need a goat. May be illegal here at the house in the village but I doubt anyone would complain after looking at our lawn all summer. If we could get a goat - we would need a goat keeper. I am serious about this of course, so if there is a goat(s) and keeper that would like to head this way - let us know. We could certainly keep the goats up on the farm land at Ark Two.

Once again, I have pretty much breezed away a newsletter without discussing the subject of Reconstruction in the cities as I have intended to get into. However, news has intervened - so until we hit a lull it has had to wait. Who knows - maybe after next week - it will just be sixty days of political news that I won't be reporting.

We are so greatly needing help with Ark Two but hardly anyone takes it very seriously and one of the problems is that everyone feels that they are so rushed and busy. It may be that some day they will wish they'd had other priorities. Of course - this has been my plaint for the last 30 years - and those who have found other things to do rather than help Ark Two can look back and say - "See we were right." Maychance it will continue to be that way.

However, if anyone is inclined to come this way - long term or short term - we will certainly welcome you. Greatest need at Ark Two at this very moment is a small engine repairman. Could hire one locally if we had the funds, but that is never the case either. Some feel that money will cure all ills - but in reality what I probably need more is patience and trust in God. I am sure that many people reading this feel the same in their own lives.

I ran across what I feel is a marvelous book on why we all go through all the tests that we do. Best writer that I have ever read and I found his treatment better than that of C.S. Lewis in "The Problem of Pain". When I saw the description of the book I thought I would like to read it but then the price was $20 so I had to pass. Next there came an offer for FREE during the following week and I had no excuse - so I got it and read it. What a blessing. I saved it and will share it with anyone who thinks they would like to read it. Just drop me an email at
