The Intensity Accelerates
At least so it seems to me. The MSM does not report the following in detail - or give it the emphasis that I think it deserves.
A report this week of rowdy demonstrations in over 100 cities in China
alone. Videos of reputedly hundreds, thousands, (one report said ten
thousand - which I doubt) - but certainly lots of Chinese boats moving
towards the islands disputed with Japan. Many large disciplined
demonstrations also taking place in Japan.
Of course we are all noting the hundreds of violent demonstrations in
many Islamic and non-Islamic countries regarding 'the film'. I don't
have an actually body count but the total dead must now be well over a
hundred, certainly if we include other Islamic activities that it has
accentuated in locations like Afghanistan. American casualties alone,
must now be over a dozen.
Still, a drop in the bucket to the daily Middle East carnage - most of
which goes unreported. Daily a total of dozens of deaths in Pakistan,
India, Syria, Iraq and surrounding countries.
'The film' was not the actual cause of the Islamic riots but rather the
'match' that agitators were looking for to light them. 'The film' is a
symbol - much as is the burning of the American flag there. Most of
those who are agitating and demonstrating have not seen the 'the film'.
In fact practically no one has seen the film. When offered for showing
in California before all this started - there was literally zero
attendance. What has been seen (or for the most part not actually seen)
is a short trailer for the film.
The trailer is available on YouTube in North America but blocked in
most/many of the rioting countries.
|
Most of the rioters have not even seen the trailer. If they had - they
would be much more angry and infuriated than they are. I looked briefly
at the trailer. After two minutes of watching I skipped down into the
video and hit a ridiculing pornographic caricature of the Prophet
Muhammad, that I watched for another two minutes. I doubt that I could
bear, even if forced to, to watch the entire film. The full intent and
purpose of the film is to infuriate. It has achieved its purpose. In the
previous newsletter I discussed my thoughts on the subject of
permitting desecration of religions and cultures but the mores of our
society permitted the trailer to continue to be shown in North America.
The world is turning aflame with the anger and crash of cultures.
Between China and Japan, Islamic and Christian cultures. Various
cultures and Israel. North and South Korea.
Numerous cultures in Africa, India, Indonesia and elsewhere. Between
cultures and subcultures. The conflicts between various Islamic groups
are innumerable. I see increasing conflicts, although not so violent at
the moment, between various Christian groups, and religion and secular
society. Anger, anger everywhere and not a drop of peace.
When we add to this racial stresses and class confrontations, such as
in Occupy Wall Street, while not presently at a peak level they all have
the potential of igniting great social conflicts in each of their
cultures, when faced with turbulent international events accentuated by
the growing arms race and military confrontations and a rapidly
deteriorating world economy and financial system.
This leads me try to define the levels of social collapse that you may experience.
Your Level 1.
This is a level that we are experiencing now in North America with
numerous indicators such as great numbers of people unemployed, the
quality of life for middle class wage earners having decreased over the
last twenty years, with the 'hollowing out' of many community commercial
and residential areas, the obvious deterioration in social
infrastructure as to water quality, air quality, road maintenance,
schools and so forth, resulting in increasing racial tensions, school
instability and student performance and increasing anti-social behavior
evidenced in mob activities and dramatic mass murders. Increased police
and law enforcement activities can be expected.
Your Level 2.
Greater direct mass confrontations as have been happening in Europe.
Some public destruction of property and increasing demand for stronger
law enforcement action. Continued increase of prices, or reduction in
quantity/quality for the price, further straining the limited resources
of the lower economic classes and the 'social safety net' resources such
as food banks and charities that have been sustaining them. Failure of
more local businesses and financial institutions. Increasing energy
costs for gasoline and heating. A growing split between those presently
well off, because of guaranteed retirement incomes or incomes linked to
inflation, versus those who more and more can find no economic solution
but are removed from the unemployment and welfare rolls. Increase in
crime.
Your Level 3.
Open conflicts such as fueled by the largely unemployed masses of youth
in the Middle East countries. Continuous law enforcement confrontations
using state and national resources. Increasing destruction of private
property, mainly in the cities, but destabilizing the present lifestyle
of relatively free and secure travel and transportation. Appearance of
shortages in the market place because of these disruptions. Growing
anger and despondency among the population. Accompanying curtailment of
civil liberties.
Your Level 4.
Increasing levels of disturbances in some locales lead to
implementation of curfews, restrictions on travel, and even
implementation of martial law in some locales. Overall situation reaches
recognizable depression levels beyond what have been experienced
before. Economic and financial market indicators in disarray, government
spokespeople urging calm and assuring action is being taken. Much of
the same type of situation on the international level.
Your Level 5.
Broad shortages in stores. Breakdown of commercial structure. Shortages
of fuel. Rationing. Pricing and payment systems very unstable. Wide
implementation of martial law. Services unstable. Power outages
repeatedly occurring. Government distribution of food. Call up of all
military reserves. Increasingly wide areas of military control.
Your Level 6.
Broad military control under presidential executive orders. Operation of
essential services such as refineries, limited air travel, truck
convoys for food distribution. Limited travel permitted. Cities and
suburbs largely paralyzed. Great reassuring government pronouncements.
All this but still not the level designated here as major social
collapse.
Your Level 7.
Universal loss of electrical power. Total anarchy and chaos in the
cities. International conflicts prevent American troops retreating home.
This is social collapse. Failed society. Whatever you want to call it.
Your Level 8.
World armed conflicts. Most all countries internally at 6 and 7 levels.
Your Level 9.
Nuclear World War Three. Destruction of cities, race riots and anarchy
in the both cities struck and those that are not. No martial law or
order of any kind. This is the Great Final Battle of Armaggedon.
Your Level 10.
Which I call the Great Catastrophe and which is presently indescribable and unbelievable.
The above list of levels is progressive in its description of the
intensity of social disruption, but that does not mean that there must
be an orderly progression through the levels. We may suddenly leap from
our present Level 1 to any one of the higher levels. Or, perhaps we
could turn from the path that we are on to one of ever higher increasing
prosperity, social stability, and increasing harmony of humanity. You
think?
Ark Two is premised upon the assumption that there is going to be
increasing instability and disruption eventually leading to catastrophe.
In a moment I shall present the anticipated situation at Ark Two with
each of the levels. The question/thought/analysis which you should hold
in mind is what would be your personal situation/response at each of the
levels, if you see any possibility of their occurring?
Ark Level 1.
For us personally and presently at Ark Two, we entered this level some
years ago. Our income was very much reduced and we had to make our life
style conform to that. We reduced our number of vehicles, turned to wood
heating, and simplified our diet and entertainment. The latter was
relatively easy for us since we neither smoke nor drink and I am a
vegetarian, and we never eat out any place more glorified than the 99
cent menu at Wendy's. As to entertainment we haven't gone out to a movie
for years and don't have a TV or the ability to play a DVD.
Ark Level 2.
Being in the country we are isolated from increasing city disruption and
environmental degradation. We have through the years continuously
reduced our travel. Within the last five years we have never gone on a
trip over five hundred miles distance and now we limit to within a range
of 100 miles. We have increased our means for local food production
although our actual production has reduced because of our age. It does
not appear at this moment that this level will have much direct impact
upon our personal situation.
Ark Level 3.
We are hoping that as the result of intensifying conditions that we may
find others willing to help maintain the Ark and to help develop our
food independence. Because we have a number of relatives in the village
there is some food assistance from their gardens and so as food becomes
more expensive in the stores we shall have to more and more restrict
ourselves to that which we produce.
Ark Level 4.
Even at this level, because of our remoteness we anticipate that we
shall remain largely insulated from the problems that will be
increasingly impacting others. Having lived through the previous
depression we are more psychologically attuned to dealing with another,
and have some idea of the kinds of actions and responses that are
needed.
Ark Level 5.
We anticipate that we will still continue to be isolated from the urban
disturbances, but that for us life will have come full circle. In my
wife's youth, on the farm here, they did not have electricity. The roads
did not permit travel to town by car in the winter. Store bought goods
were a rarity. We have means to provide some illumination. A stream runs
behind our house for water. At my age, cutting sufficient wood for heat
may be a problem. Solvable, if others join us.
Ark Level 6.
Life in the village will return to such as it was in the pioneer and
Great Depression days. No one starved to death here, but it was tough
beyond what the present generation can imagine. We will still be largely
isolated from the city activities.
Ark Level 7.
The outside world will not now be passing us by. There may be great
numbers of refugees fleeing from the city. They will still hold their
modern day concepts of entitlement and things may not be pretty. Indeed
we may see many tragic situations, but it is unlikely that the local
authorities will be all that kindly inclined to outsiders so they may
not be permittedin to affect us directly.
Ark Level 8.
For us this will probably result in no visible increase of impact above
what has already occurred in the previous level. The continuation of the
situation from that level is beyond the comprehension of the present
generation. The best description is to be found in the book, "One Second
After".
Ark Level 9 .
Fallout and a button down situation. I have in previous newsletters
described the Ark Two security and response in this situation so there
is no need to repeat it here.
Ark Level 10.
Which I call the Great Catastrophe and which is presently indescribable
and unbelievable and I shall not try to describe it here, although the
recovery aspect is what I hope to deal with in the Nanowrimo project
that we are undertaking.
So there you have it. The question is - where do you stand in all this?
Perhaps you should go back through the initial listing of ten levels and
picture yourself in your location in that situation.
Peace and love,
Bruce
