SAFE Ark Two Newsletter
February 2nd, 2013
What is Significant?
Lots of things happening each week. What gives me pause is wondering WHAT DOESN'T MAKE THE NEWS
that may being planned or occur in some room somewhere such as in the
Pentagon or its equivalent in Russia, China, or elsewhere - or some
chamber equivalent to the executive offices of the White House, or some
corporate boardroom, or some unknown laboratory. What is really
important we can probably never know and most likely wouldn't truly
understand its significance if we were told about it.
All that we know about are those things that eventually bubble to the
surface. The things that change the course of history are often random
events that are unexpected by those who consider themselves the planners
and guides of humanity's social destiny. Still, while we may not know
the match that may start the conflagration, we can look about and see
signs that indicate the wetness or dryness of the forest.
Such small news items, such as the following, are all that I receive and that I can share with you.
I wrote for the last several weeks about the importance of the Israeli
elections. Well, they have come and gone - and to my surprise, and to
the surprise of most all observers, and the polls that had been taken,
while Netanyahu won, it was with nothing the margin that was anticipated
and so consequently was not a clear signal that he would proceed
against Iran.
Still, Israel remained at the center of International news in that it
struck a target deep inside Syria. Chastised as they may have been by
numerous countries, no immediate response was forthcoming other than one
must note that Russia started evacuating by air 30,000 of its citizens
that were in the country. This action in addition to the closing of some
consulate offices as reported in the previous newsletter.
|
As the story unfolded there were many who expected dramatic events
within hours, but now days have passed and the status quo seems to
remain despite loud noises from Iran. Disruptions in other countries,
over other matters, such as soccer in Egypt and abortion in France, have
proven much more provocative, turning hundreds of thousands of people
into the streets. As I have said - it is difficult to say what is
serious and important.
On the other side of the world China and Japan wrestle, at least
diplomatically, and North Korea has declared martial law, which seems
like a shoot yourself in the foot sort of thing that as usual leaves the
rest of the world shaking their heads and wondering what the isolated
crazies are up to now. Don't discount them. Just as in local society it
is sometimes the loner that jumps on a school bus and kidnaps a random
kid - that makes things suddenly turn upside down.
Happened in Iran this last week when a big underground nuclear
laboratory suddenly went boom. Those who play with fire can get burnt by
fire but there has been so much erratic reporting about that - that I
have no idea what is going on. The spectrum has been as broad as
disclaimers that nothing happened, to reports that great numbers of
workers couldn't be reached, to blaming the Israelis for sabotage, to
proclaiming that they would immediately activate much more substantial
activities they had been holding back on, to announcements that
face-to-face negotiations might take place with the US. Such polar
extremes that I have no idea what is going on.
North Korea seems to be their ally in strategy and action and while
their ally Russia appears to be pulling out of Syria, whom they have
both vowed to defend - one must be cautious in how they interpret these
actions. Pakistan is another area with which Iran has a mutual defense
policy/commitment and things there have deteriorated to the point that
India this week issued warnings to its citizens to prepare fallout
shelters. As you know, I don't expect anything to happen immediately,
but as you also know - I have been known to be wrong before.
Most of us look upon these international happenings and feel that since
there is nothing that we can do about them we may as well ignore them in
our day to day life. That life is such a struggle for so many that I
hear from, and from other reports that we see in the news. Big headlines
this week have been about the number of US military suicides exceeding
the number killed in battle.
Much greater, but not so widely reported, is the number of veteran
suicides. One every hour. That tells about a lot of suffering but even
those numbers do not include the number of attempted suicides, and
certainly not the number who contemplate suicide which is surely many
fold greater. This must come from an immense pool who are equally well
suffering but who are not contemplating suicide. In point of fact a
large percentage of veterans have not adjusted well as they join an even
greater pool of civilians for whom society just doesn't seem to be
working today.
These kinds of numbers about the trees in the forest are reflected in
odd little facts about the instability of society today. I could give
you a long list - but I am going to provide just one. A new phenomena,
totally not present in the American scene fifty, even twenty, perhaps
even ten or five years ago. Plans and strategies are in place to block
off / cordon off / seal off / isolate / whole sections of American
cities.

These gates that are ready to swing into place
are not light little "do not cross barriers" like the wooden toll bars that come down in front of a car at a parking lot. Nor are they the temporary saw horse or larger kind moved into place for construction.
These are heavy steel that it would take a tank-like vehicle,
say a bulldozer, to get through.

As you can see above -
sometimes the purpose of the gates
is to keep traffic in
and other times it is to keep traffic out

Okay, all this is not totally new. From the outset there have been
placards saying that the Interstate Highway system would be closed to
public travel and would be available only to the military in case of
national emergency. (You can think the same of the Internet, telephone,
and other communication systems.)
Many parts of cities are already largely isolated from other parts by
freeways, rail lines, structures of various kinds. It does not take a
lot of ingenuity to figure out how to seal them off. Move a couple of
large vehicles into key points, put down strips of road spikes, lift a
drawbridge, pull a train of boxcars across the crossings, or simply have
a half dozen of these trailers or this standing by in a secure parking lot. Or it can be done by hand. It won't take long.
Still, these give new meaning to the expression 'gated communities'.
Think of steerage passengers on the Titanic, or trying to get over the
bridge to escape New Orleans. You know my recommendations about this
matter. As I said, I am giving only one example but there have been
numerous news items just this week about new surveillance drones, sound
cannons, street crowd body scanners, camera facial recognition software,
and a plethora of other things undreamt of ten year ago. This week,
last week, and next week - there will be hundreds, perhaps thousands, of
men training in the US with this type of control technology. The
question is - are you going to be a controller or a controlee? Oh well,
Jesus did say to, "Love thine enemies", which must surely have included
to "Love thy keepers."
But enough. I could fill the whole newsletter with subject matter such
as this, which I couldn't have even imagined ten years ago. What will
you think of this ten years from now? That will have to be your guess -
not mine.
So - onto pleasanter matters. Our radio engineers are both away
traveling this week but the items they have ordered, are supposed to
arrive while they are gone so that on the 15th they may proceed.
Darlene too is making great progress. The following is a screen shot of
the User Interface. Not quite as it will appear - but close. For some
reason, on my computer, the frequency jogger doesn't appear on the
control bar. However, this is near enough to allow me to explain the
general idea.
The S.A.F.E. Emergency Messaging System works by hooking the radio up to
your computer by two wires that you connect to your computer's sound
board connections. One to the speaker plug and the other to the
microphone plug. You then control the radio by loading and running the
above interface on your computer.
I will go into more detail another time, but do note the following four large areas on the screen.
1. The large green area is where you see the message that you have selected to receive.
2. The large white area below the green area is where you type messages that you are going to send.
3. The white area on the left of the screen is called the multichannel
window and is where you can see signals being sent on various
frequencies.
4. The blue window at the bottom is called the waterfall and permits you
to see which frequencies are being used in the surrounding PSK31
spectrum. You can select one by moving the red cursor that is on it.
Basically that is the overall concept. Aside from activating the
transmit/receive button the rest consists of relative minor details that
you use only occassionally.
I plan to write more about the system, both hardware and software, as
development continues. More importantly we need to get into the need for
the system and how the system fulfills the need.
Who knows what we will be talking about next week - in our ever changing world.
Peace and love,
Bruce
